How many times have people searched for weight loss or diets and everything to do with weight? What were you searching for about diets or weight loss that brought you to this blog?
There is no universal starting point when talking about weight because everybody's weight journey is different, and their thoughts around their body image and weight are so different. When did the weight problem start, is always an interesting conversation.
How to lose weight
So, for this blog I'm going to start at "I need to lose some weight".
This thought alone can make people feel upset, angry and lonely; especially as they get dressed to go out to an event and they look at their outfit in the mirror and wish they weren't going out. Unfortunately, some people at this stage cancel the meet up and BANG! A simple thought has triggered a tsunami of upset, angry thoughts and feelings ranging from 'nothing suits me', to 'I'm fat and ugly'. What we think about ourselves can be so damaging to our self belief and confidence.
Anger, disappointment, disbelief, disgust, you can add your own thoughts and feelings here to add to the words. We have all had them about our weight from the skinniest person, to the person who seems 'perfect'.
So, "I need to lose some weight", starts now.
Google is great and provides so much information that we can research, so we search for diets, weight loss diets, best way to lose weight, how to lose weight, easiest way to lose weight and so on; but there is so much information and so many claiming their way works best or for longer; it's all very confusing and feeds into our negativity. But really the question is; how can you lose weight easily and comfortably?
The reasons for weight gain are too many to write down here, but lets just say childhood issues/confidence, comments made to you by family members, either as a child or an adult, going from an active lifestyle to a more relaxed living style, and that is before we even mention the 'menobody', there are many reasons for weight gain and we must always be aware of changes in our life cycle, eg; break ups, change of career, age, changes in hobbies, changes in our lifestyles and maybe even a relaxation in our eating and drinking habits.
This is where the change starts. In the mind,
Weight loss starts with a thought and a feeling. So why don't we start here.
Change a thought to change a habit and I wonder what thoughts you would need to change to make weight loss work for you? What feelings would need to be changed to make sure you didn't reach for that item you know will affect your goal of losing weight.? Is there a confidence or anxiety issue that needs to be addressed to allow you to lose that weight? Again, it's a thought to change a habit, change a habit to change a life. Please read that again. Does this ring bells for you?
Whether you use the mirror, weighing scales or clothing comfort to check your current weight/ size, you could already be losing the battle with negativity. Weight loss comes from within you by making the changes needed to lose weight. Nothing drastic, nothing severe, just small changes. Growing in confidence and feeling good about yourself allows you to be successful and if you have friends or a person close to you, having their positive attitude toward you and your body image is beneficial. Saying negative things to change people does not work, it only reinforces the negative belief system around weight and self belief. Positive changes come through happiness and a willingness to understand our bodies and know when it's time to make little changes to diet.

All the above are really helpful and do successfully help you to lose weight but again it all starts in the head with a weight loss thought and in the body with a feeling.

So we change those thoughts, feelings and behaviours to something that suits you better. For example; 'oh, isn't it lovely sitting down here relaxing enjoying this lovely hot cup of tea just relaxing and unwinding'. 'Lets watch this fabulous programme and enjoy it'. When I come home the first thing I will do is kill my thirst with a drink of water and allow myself to relax a little while having it '. Of course, the change of thoughts would be things that have already been discussed with you before hypnotherapy started.
